Forrest Anderson on the Great Wall

Forrest was born in Japan and spent more than 14 years working and living in Asia and even longer studying its history and language. In his work as a contract photographer for Time magazine in China, he took the 6,000+ China photos on this site, in addition to another 20,000+ photos that are in the process of being digitized to upload to the site. The photographs cover China’s dynamic reform era, including the vibrant development of China’s economy and its opening to the outside world. Forrest photographed many world leaders and major news events such as the 1989 Tiananmen democracy movement and crackdown and the 1997 turnover of Hong Kong to China.

An avid student of Chinese history and languages, Forrest speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese.

He also worked for the Internet giant Cisco Systems as a project manager, technical liaison, and web developer, and opened new offices for Cisco in six Asian countries. In 2007, Forrest left Cisco to work as web developer, project manager, and photographer at Rouviere Media.

He manages and builds standards-based websites which incorporate photography and image- and document-related databases in addition to managing his own on-line photo database on this site.
